After Governor Newsom’s decisive victory in yesterday’s recall election, our future in California looks a lot brighter and our spirits are lighter.
The progress we’ve made on the environment, social justice, fighting COVID and much more, can now continue. Congratulations to the governor and all of you who supported him through this costly and aggravating ordeal!
Now my campaign for State Senate will be able to completely focus on the 36th Senate District.
The final lines of the district will likely be re-drawn around the beginning of next year, and with the primary nine months away, we’re meeting as many voters as possible, raising campaign funds, and getting endorsements.

I’m proud to report that our campaign has been endorsed by dozens of elected officials, including San Diego County Congressmen Mike Levin and Scott Peters; State Treasurer Fiona Ma; all five San Diego County Democrats in the California Assembly, namely Tasha Boerner-Horvath, Chris Ward, Dr. Akilah Weber, Lorena Gonzalez, and Brian Maienschein, and all three Democrats on the San Diego County Board of Supervisors – Terra Lawson-Remer, Nora Vargas and Nathan Fletcher.
And this just in – I’m also now endorsed by all eight Democratic San Diego City Councilmembers and City of San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria.
I hope I can count on your endorsement, too. Click here to add your name! A complete list of endorsements can be found on my website, including city councilmembers and mayors both inside and outside of San Diego County and Orange County.
As I mentioned in my last newsletter, we’re excited about our 12-city barnstorming tour of the district that started this week in Oceanside (photos below). I’m spending time exploring each city, listening to residents, and learning more about local issues.
If you have a suggestion of a place to visit in your city, or a group of people you’d like me to meet, I’d love to hear your ideas. Please click here to let me know your suggestions!
We can also get to know each other at any one of our upcoming fundraising receptions in San Clemente, Encinitas, Rancho Santa Fe, and San Juan Capistrano. These are great opportunities to meet your neighbors, learn about my campaign, and share your thoughts about the issues that concern you. You can see the places, dates and times, and RSVP below.
Again, I have to tell you how much I appreciate your good energy and support! If you’d like to contribute to our campaign, please click that big blue button under my signature.
Onward!,

OCEANSIDE: FIRST STOP ON OUR 12-CITY TOUR!
Our first stop was a business networking meeting with local business owners at the Oceanside Chamber of Commerce, a 125-year-old civic organization! I enjoyed a delicious Chai tea latte at Oceanside’s Brown Cup Café. Thank you to owner, Roger Thavarajah for showing me around and taking the time to talk about the issues facing small businesses like his. Tom Aldrich led me on a tour of The Brick Hotel, which re-opens in November! It was first built in 1888, and it was great to see all of that history up-close. Plus, what a great view of downtown Oceanside from the hotel roof! What a treat to meet the owners of Oceanside’s Cream of the Crop grocery store, Diane & Harry Najjar! Fun fact: Diane’s brothers own Cardiff Seaside Market. Successful grocery store ownership runs in their family! They even sell the famous “Cardiff Crack” meat here as well.
