Join us tomorrow as we celebrate my time as Encinitas Mayor!

November 28, 2022

Have you ever been in a life transition, with one foot planted in the past and the other in the future? That’s where I find myself right now – in a strange zone of passage between mayor and senator.

It’s a very privileged place to be, but it sure brings up a swirl of thoughts and emotions!

Being Mayor of the City of Encinitas has been the honor of my lifetime. Our family has lived in Encinitas for a century, and I’m so grateful for having had the opportunity to carry the baton of leadership here for the short eight years I’ve been in office.

This job has certainly had its challenges and lessons. Encinitas is blessed with a highly engaged and vocal population. Overall it’s been an extremely productive adventure, including transformative transportation and infrastructure improvements, and an energized focus on being the best version of a city that leads with our compassionate heart, and a welcoming spirit.

I’d like to invite you to a Special City Council Meeting at Encinitas City Hall tomorrow (Tuesday) night at 6 p.m. It would be a pleasure to share this moment with you! If you can’t make it, you can watch it live on the city’s YouTube Channel.

There will be gratitude, reflections on highlights and accomplishments, acknowledgments of my elected colleagues and the professional staff, and other fun. Plus, a reception afterward! I hope you can make it.

Your invitation is here:

As for that other foot – the one that’s planted in the future – I’m scheduled to be sworn-in as your state senator at noon next Monday, December 5, in our California State Capitol.

You’ll also be able to livestream the swearing-in an event on Senate TV. On December 5, just go to https://www.senate.ca.gov and look for the livestream link on the right-hand side, under “Today’s Events.”

Early in the new year, there’ll be a local event that will be easier to attend. Plus, that’s where you’ll get a chance to meet our staff members who’ll be working on your behalf.

As your senator, I’ll be staying in touch with you like I always have. I’ll send your invite to the local event as soon as it’s finalized!

With hope, gratitude and excitement,

Sorry, you are not in the 38th Senate District.
