Greetings! I’m writing to ask for your support in my campaign for re-election as your mayor, and to invite you to participate in a special Zoom event that I’m hosting on August 11.
We’ll be joined by five of our all-star friends: our U.S Representative Mike Levin; our State Assemblymember Tasha Boerner Horvath; County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher; our District 1 City Councilmember Tony Kranz; and our District 2 City Councilmember (and Deputy Mayor) Kellie Hinze.
They’ll be there to support my candidacy and answer your questions. It’s going to be part conversation, part fundraising event. This will be your opportunity to interact with all six influential elected officials at once!
The Zoom with Catherine & Friends online event will start at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, August 11 and run for about an hour.

Why your support really matters in this election
We’re living in a time of profound unease and disagreement on many levels. This year our campaign, like other campaigns, has attracted agitated, vocal opponents who are attempting to undermine and discredit the forward-thinking progress we’ve made together over the last few years.
As a result, it’s more important than ever for our campaign to have the financial resources to get the truth out to Encinitas voters.
It takes quite a bit of money to conduct a successful campaign anywhere, but Encinitas is a special case. I’m happy that our city has one of the lowest contribution limits in the county ($250 per person, $500 per couple) because it reduces the role of money in politics. But the flip side is that it takes many more individual donations to ensure victory.
So if you haven’t contributed, or your previous contribution was under $250, I’d be very grateful if you assist our cause, up to that $250 per person limit. Any amount is most welcome! You can donate here.
Temperament, experience and positivity
Our admired former Mayor Teresa Barth said something the other day that really resonated with me: “Anyone can find fault. Leaders find solutions.”
And during this pandemic crisis, it’s even more essential to have a steady, capable leader in Encinitas.
I have an opponent in this mayoral race with no governing experience, who declared her candidacy against me when the City Council voted to approve a “Safe Parking Lot,” for those who are temporarily without a home to stay safely overnight. At the raucous, pre-pandemic meeting, she stood up and dramatically announced she was running for mayor, surrounded by others opposed to this effort to help the unsheltered population.
I perceive her platform to be anti-progress and grievance-oriented. In 2016, she was a main organizer for the group called “No Rail Trail,” who were staunch opponents of the now very popular Cardiff Rail Trail.
In contrast, my platform offers experienced, positive and compassionate leadership with a focus on the environment, improving community spaces and transportation projects, and providing help to those in need. You can learn more about where I stand by clicking here.
